The building industry is something that will never die and will therefore be room for growth in construction employment. Whether you are looking to begin as a framer to learn the trade, become an apprentice, and before long you will be looking into the big jobs of construction employment. There are a wide variety of jobs that are available because construction covers a vast area of expertise. There are jobs that encompass that of office construction, home construction, as well as subcontracting services. There are management positions in construction that involve administration, systems analysis, supervisory, training and consulting. Construction management is a great position to explore. They will plan and coordinate the projects they're working on. They may have different titles than just management; there are general superintendents, project engineers, project manager, general construction manager or executive construction manager. The title is not the important thing; the important thing is what you do in that position. You may be the owner of your own company or you may work as an employee paid on salary for a large company. They may have you over a whole crew or a small project. Construction managers are going to be over the progress of the construction and supervising the crew. You may even be supervising other construction managers that are over their own crews. You will see that the jobs are being done in an efficient yet safe environment. Construction usually has a deadline to meet and there are workers that will want to cut a few corners, it would be your job to prevent that. You will be monitoring compliance issues, building and safety codes and any other regulations that need to be enforced. Construction employment is really a great area to go into. There are opportunities all around you if you have the skills to do construction jobs. To obtain this type of job, employers prefer those who combine their work experience in the construction industry along with a bachelor's degree in construction science, construction management, and/or civil engineering. There are really some excellent construction employment opportunities available, and the more complex these projects seem to be, the greater the need for more experienced managers. If you are interested in the opportunity that construction employment brings, then you will need a good background in building science, business management and any work related experience that you may have already. You will need to be able to read a house plan and know about the materials used and needed, methods of building, regulations, etc. You will need to be able to bid a job, determine the cost by how much material, supplies, labor and anything else that may come as a surprise in a construction job. You will need to have a good knowledge of computers and software programs to do your cost analysis, scheduling, online collaboration and estimating. It will also be a great benefit to speak Spanish fluently to be able to communicate with many of the workers that only speak Spanish. There are many colleges and universities that offer 4-year programs in construction management or construction science. If you have a Master's degree in construction, this will better enable you to hold a position over large construction or construction management companies. This is the reason why those who hold a bachelors degree in an unrelated field, will get their Master's degree in construction management. You will be wise to check in the field of construction employment. You will have a job waiting for you no matter where you are. You will be working along other professionals who have your same goals and desires in mind. You will be learning from them and most likely teaching them a few things as well |
